Billy Jean by David Cook
I became an ardent follower of David Cook while watching American Idol 7 every Wednesday and Thursday (+8:00 GMT) and I’m thrilled that he (a rocker) won the title that most aspiring young artists would hanker after.
Why I love this song:
As a child of the 80s, I grew up listening (and dancing) to Madonna, Michael Jackson, Cindy Lauper and Boy George. With only a black and white vintage TV as the ultimate source of Western music, it was almost like a daily ritual for us to tune in to the defunct MTV-wannabe local channel. Thanks to my mom’s sister, who unconsciously oriented me to the 80s music and style.
Although I heard this song probably a hundred times over, I haven’t heard anyone played it like this. While nothing could replace MJ’s version, DC’s version totally rocked the house! Listen (and watch) so you’ll know why.
