Popularity Contest Indeed

Now I truly believe that American Idol is nothing more than a popularity contest. Carly Smithson, my favorite contestant this season, got voted out after singing Jesus Christ Superstar during the Andrew Lloyd Webber week. As a big fan of musicals and Broadway play, I say that Carly did great and was easily the best performer that night (if not the next best). Actually, it doesn’t take a genius to know this. But since this is NOT a singing competition, people would rather keep the one that forgot the lyrics (and twice at that!) than vote according to performance.

To say that I was shocked when Ryan announced Carly’s name is an understatement. I mean, Syesha and Carly gave the best performances of the night. It’s a struggle to see and hear Brooke White sing another song so that being said, I hope she’ll go next week.

It’s pretty obvious that the two Davids are going to be in the finals.
